Graveyard Kiss

When the moon's fading glow still shows with the morning light
And storm clouds grow with each minute coming alive
I feel the mist before the rain and remember you
The moment of that grave yard kiss that ended everything
Your skin pale white and your blue lips so cold
Eyes glazed over and staring lifeless at the sky
I kissed you despite it all knowing this would be our last haunted embrace
Walking away from the cemetery alone
With nothing but stale memories to keep me warm
Words etched into granite and stone meaning nothing now
Monuments to illusions buried deep in the earth forevermore
This vision remains like a recurring dream of our jaded love
That will not die with visions of yesterday
But resurrected by the black clouds
Mocking eternity like night shadows before the Sun wakes
Holding on to the past
Waiting in vain like a fool
For something disinterred that can never be.
