Historically, commercial and political interests have sought to pigeon hole or box differing music styles and genres even breaking them down to racial divisions such as "black" or soul music, popular or "white" music and "freestyle" or Latin music. With crossover success and opening of minds many people have found that music is music and the beauty of music is its diversity within a greater whole that all can recognize just as music. That is the joy and salvation of music that we are ALL one in the musical realm regardless of our individual preferences and I believe that message was the THREAT inherent in the reaction many had to DISCO which lives on to this day when genres cross over to popular success.
