I don't talk too much about DAMIEN EXCELSIOR because it is an extremely personal subject for me. DAMIEN came into this world with many challenges and special issues to contend with and that brought great pressure and the need to protect him and fight for him every step of the way because as much as the world pretends to be a savior to these children, it leaves them out in the cold and ill equipped for life most of the time. Even with the best of intentions you feel the failure and loss at not being able to save them from themselves and the system.
With that being said, I could not imagine being in a world without DAMIEN. He is my best friend. He is the only one that understands my sense of humor and laughs with me. DAMIEN gives me purpose and a joy that I could not imagine prior to his being born. He has brought out the best of me and at times, he makes me realize I need to be a better person and cope with failure with a calm voice and a resolute mission to endure.
I have always felt I must be a savior to DAMIEN, but when I was gone from his life for over a month, I returned and found out he seemed just fine WITHOUT me. I knew he was not fine, but I saw his inner strength shine through and realized I needed him more than he needed me. I will always try to be there for DAMIEN and live as long as possible to be by his side and fight the battles of life with him. But I also know he is a fighter and can endure albeit with a little assistance and loving care from kind hearted souls.
DAMIEN is and will always be my hero and best friend.
