Graveyard Coffeehouse
Catch And Release
A fishermen cast his line
Beyond the waves
On a rocky beach
Hauling in his catch
Anticipating a full meal
In a frying pan
Finding a mermaid
Struggling against
His burly strength
He reeled her in
Screaming upon the rocks
Holding her
In his muscled arms
Looking into her eyes
Mesmerized
Feeling her soft skin
Full breasts
Against his hands
Scaly tail fin
Flapping
As he held her fast
Against her will
He kissed her smooth lips
Ran his fingers
Through her flowing hair
Overcome by joy
Adrenaline
Love
Then he removed
The savage hook
That ensnared this aquatic beauty
Releasing her
With despair
Watching her swim away
Receding in the distance
Like the tide
He kept a vigil every day
Hoping to see
His love again
But each day passed
Bleak
Even when the sun
Did shine
He left garlands of flowers
Offerings of fish
Jewelry made of shells
Polished stones
Gazing into the horizon
Beneath turbulent water
White foam
Hoping to catch a glimpse
Of her pale supple frame
Voluptuous charms
One day he lost hope
It was that day
She appeared once more
She said
I have loved you
More than the ocean
Greater than
The freedom of the cruel sea
You are part of my heart now
And I cannot stay away
Any longer
Come live with me
And be my love
He said
The mermaid replied
If I stay on land
I will surely die
Of exposure
Swim away with me
The mermaid persuaded
The fisherman responding
If I swim away
I will certainly drown
In the deep ocean
So they made passionate love
In the shallows
Every week for a year
Until the burly fisherman's
Sturdy legs
Formed into a primitive
Fish's tale
How did you know
We would meet again
The mermaid inquired
Smiling so beautiful
Amongst the waves
The fisherman winked
Mischievously
And said
He knew it would be
This way
All along
He could see it
In her eyes
Feel it in his
Legs which formed
Into a fish tail
Such is the meaning
Of love
He laughed
If you love someone
Set them free
If they return
They are yours
This love
Was destined to be
They both swam away
To live in happiness
Forever
Within waves and foam
While the fisherman
Serenaded
His mermaid lover
Under the deep
Blue ocean
Dancing with her
In his arms
His heart soaring
Among the stars
In the Night sky
Catch and release
My love
Catch and release
He sang
As he whirled
Her around
Within the icy current
A fire burning
Within his heart
That would
Never die.
