Graveyard Coffeehouse
Leap Of Faith
Two lovers walked
Through a field of roses
Into a dark forest
Hand in hand
Stopping to kiss
And make love
Under the shade
Of maple trees
Continuing on
Rumpled
With a wicked smile
Into a clearing
Stopping to admire
The mountainside
In the distance
Adjacent to a strange
Monument rising
Into the sky
Built of mortar
And stone
What does it mean
Her lover asked?
I will not go further
Until I have an answer
Wait here she conceded
For I do not know
So his lover
Dutifully walked
Into the distance
Until she reached
The towering edifice
And ascended
The spiral stairway
To the top
Reading the plaque
While gazing below
At the tiny spot
In the distance
Where her love
Patiently waited
She could feel
The brisk breeze
Fear the dizzying height
Where she stood
So naked and vulnerable
Alone
Written into the marker
Were the following words
In bold gothic print
The Answer Lies Below
So the dutiful lover
Inhaled deep
Closed her eyes tight
Already
Feeling
The crack of bone
Crush of sinew
Warm pool of blood
On lacerated skin
Exhaled slow
Balanced her feet
On the edge
Of the cobblestone
Ledge
And jumped
Off the precipice
Awaiting
The promised resolution
Smiling
Between
Screams.
