I first recall hearing Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" when I was abducted by my father and staying in a rented room in Canada with a family that lived next to an abandoned house. According to YOUTUBE the song was released in January of 1973 so that would verify the date of my kidnapping at February 14, 1972, just after my birthday at age 3 along with my sister who was age 2.
To this day this song evokes dark memories even though the melody is a happy one. My father took us to Canada then across the United States to California and back to the East Coast some time in late 1974, early 1975 by my estimate. I don't think my sister has ever spoken about what happened to us though the memories haunt me constantly especially when I hear the song "Crocodile Rock" which has a deep personal significance to me that drowns the tune in sorrow.
Some say the demons that torment you, do so only until you stop harboring the secret inside and air the pain and shame that eats you from the inside. Only then can you declare victory over evil and move on.
"I remember when rock was young..."
