The best I can explain the CO-DEPENDENT relationship is through the following parable. You and your partner decide to take a swim. Soon you realize you have been pulled out into the ocean and are about to drown. If you try to swim alone you feel yourself sinking. If you cling to your partner, you are able to keep your heads above water. Soon a large seal swims by and shits on both your heads. If you attempt to remove the seal shit, you start to sink. So you tread water with your partner with a huge lump of seal shit on your heads for the best of everybody so you rationalize, but the stink is unbearable, but so is the thought of drowning if you break away.
